What Face Search does

Face Search lets you upload a photo of a face and check where else that face may appear across public web sources — profile photos, articles, forum posts, and similar public pages. It is built for a narrow set of situations: verifying a dating profile isn’t catfishing you, checking whether an old photo of yourself is being reused somewhere, or trying to responsibly reconnect with someone you’ve lost touch with.

We don’t run our own facial recognition index. Paid searches are powered by the FaceCheck.id API, a specialist face-search provider. Face Search is the layer on top: a simpler upload flow, one-time credit packs instead of a subscription, and plain-language guidance about what a result does and doesn’t tell you. We think that combination — a capable backend plus honest framing — is more useful than either piece alone.

Why we built it this way

Most face-search tools on the market are subscriptions, priced for people who search constantly: investigators, security teams, people monitoring their own image at scale. Most people aren’t in that group. They have one photo, one question, and no interest in a recurring charge they’ll forget to cancel. We’d rather tell you clearly what this technology is actually good at, and where it falls short, than sell you a fantasy version of it.

Who operates Face Search

Face Search is built and run by a small, independent team. We are not a data broker and we do not sell your information. Our job is the product experience around a third-party face-search API: the interface, billing, customer support, and the educational content across this site. Guides on the learn hub, blog, and comparison pages are published under Face Search Editorial — practical, reviewed guidance, not anonymous SEO filler. When something in our product depends on a partner’s technology — like the actual face-matching — we say so directly rather than implying it’s proprietary to us.

What we won’t do

Transparency is easier to list as negatives — here is what Face Search deliberately does not do:

What Face Search is not

Face Search is not a private investigator, a background-check service, or a law-enforcement tool. It doesn’t have access to private databases, government records, or anything beyond what’s publicly visible online. A match is a lead to review, not a verified identity — and it’s entirely normal to get zero results, even for a real, clear photo, if that face simply isn’t present in the sources the index has crawled. We’d rather you know that going in than find out after paying.
